Origins (1999). Fountain of Youth began as a fan project conceived and scripted by Jocke Andersson around 1999. Over time the scope and ambition grew as more artists and developers joined the effort.

First public demo (2006). After years of prototyping and asset work, a playable demo was released in 2006 and picked up by the games press and community.

Side releases. The team produced seasonal mini-games and flash animations, including Temple of Spheres (2009) and Passage of Saints (2012).

Chapter plan (2013). In 2013 the team decided to split the game into chapters for release, while continuing to recruit contributors to share the workload.

Team. Over the years contributors included Mark Lovegrove (Screen 7), Misja van Laatum, Jan “DKH” Simon, Paul Wilkinson (Subspark), Mutbrecht Asengard and many community helpers.

Project status (2021). By 2021 public posts indicated the project was discontinued under Screen 7.

Continuation (2025). The project is now being continued by BYTE RANGER Software with the aim of releasing it in stages.
